Duties and Responsibilities

The Boarding Matron & Nurse plays a critical role in the daily lives of boarding students, ensuring they are healthy, safe, and emotionally supported.

1. Clinical & Nursing Care

  • Provide daily nursing support and first aid to students.
  • Manage and administer student medications according to school policy.
  • Escort students to the hospital for emergency care or specialized appointments when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and health logs for all boarding students.

2. Student Welfare & Boarding Management

  • Foster a caring and structured boarding atmosphere.
  • Monitor the emotional wellbeing of students and provide a “trusted presence” for those away from home.
  • Collaborate with the Boarding Manager to maintain safety and hygiene standards in the dormitories.
  • Assist students with daily support needs, ensuring a smooth residential experience.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate a balance of medical competence and a genuine passion for childcare.

  • Education: A recognized Qualification in General Nursing (Certificate or Diploma).
  • Experience: Previous experience in a school, boarding environment, or pediatric setting is a significant advantage.
  • Personality: Must be patient, approachable, and highly observant of children’s needs.
  • Skills: Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a residential (live-in) environment.
  • Ethics: High standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and child safeguarding.
