Company Description
The Prison Service was officially established on August 25, 1931 following the separation of the Police and Prison forces. Prior to 1931, despite having responsibilities of protecting the safety and property of foreigners, the Police Force also carried out prison duties as defined and intended by the colonial administration.
When it was first established, the Prison Service was called the Prison Department, and its operations remained colonial in nature—centered on the torture of prisoners and hard labor, without consideration of whether such labor was beneficial to them or to the Nation.
