In partnership with the Ministry of Health, we are launching the Tanzania Neonatal Assessment and Remediation Plan to address critical gaps in newborn care at Kivunge District Hospital.
We are seeking a dedicated Neonatal specialist to lead clinical excellence, mentor local staff, and save lives in our newly prioritized Neonatal Unit.

Job Details
- Location: Kivunge District Hospital, Zanzibar
- Contract: 9 Months (Renewable based on performance)
- Start Date: April 2026

Core Objectives
As a Pediatrician/Neonatologist, you will bridge the gap between assessment and action through three primary pillars:
- Clinical Leadership: Oversee the daily operations of the Neonatal Unit and Pediatric Department.
- Quality Transformation: Implement life-saving clinical protocols and international standards of care.
- Capacity Building: Serve as a technical lead for the Kivunge Neonatal Simulation Center, training the next generation of healthcare providers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Advanced Clinical Care: Lead daily ward rounds, manage complex neonatal cases, and provide expert consultation during high-risk deliveries and C-sections.
- Mentorship & Training: Transition staff from basic to advanced competence through bedside mentoring and simulation-based training.
- Governance & Audits: Chair monthly maternal and perinatal death audits to identify systemic improvements and ensure adherence to national guidelines.
- Health Informatics: Supervise data collection and analysis to monitor clinical outcomes and drive evidence-based decision-making.
Qualifications and Experience
Education & Experience
- Medical Degree (MD) with a completed Specialization in Pediatrics.
- Proven clinical experience specifically in Neonatology (this must be highlighted in your application).
Skills & Communication
- Languages: C1 Proficiency in both English and Kiswahili is required.
- Technical: High digital literacy (MS Office, Windows) and experience with digital Health Information Systems (HIS).
- Leadership: Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams in a resource-limited setting.
