Main Purpose of the Role

The Medical Coordinator Support will assist the Medical Coordinator through delegated clinical and administrative tasks. The successful candidate will ensure strong institutional relationships with local and national healthcare authorities, support project management across various sites, and maintain strict adherence to MSF protocols, hygiene rules, and safety precautions to guarantee high-quality patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Medical Program Supervision & Data Management

  • Monitor & Evaluate: Supervise the implementation of ongoing medical activities across assigned project sites according to preset schedules.
  • Epidemiological Surveillance: Collect, analyze, and interpret epidemiological data from projects to monitor public health alerts and report validated findings to coordination teams.
  • Reporting: Prepare comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual medical reports; oversee data archiving and strict medical file confidentiality.
  • Pharmacy & Logistics Support: Assist in managing the central pharmacy and guide the logistics team regarding optimal drug stock management.

2. Staff Health Policy Implementation

  • Insurance Coordination: Act as the main focal point for the local medical insurance provider to resolve health-related issues raised by staff.
  • Briefings & Prevention: Provide routine health context briefings to LHS and IMS, draft timely outbreak briefs, and update the national health policy.
  • Routine Care: Organize medical appointments for international staff, manage medical first-aid boxes (for offices, houses, and vehicles), and coordinate annual eye checks for drivers.

3. Human Resources & Team Management

  • Team Leadership: Participate in recruiting, training, monitoring, and evaluating medical team members in the capital.
  • Capacity Building: Participate in the briefing, debriefing, and vacation planning of medical and paramedical staff.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Attend external technical working groups and Ministry of Health meetings, updating key stakeholder maps and contact lists.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Educational Qualifications

  • Medical Doctor Degree (MD) from a recognized academic institution.
  • Must hold a valid registration/practicing license from the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT) (Mandatory).

Required Experience & Skills

  • A minimum of two (2) years of active clinical or medical management experience.
  • Prior training or field experience in tropical medicine and/or public health.
  • Direct experience working in emergency settings or developing country contexts.
  • Computer Literacy: Essential proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and internet-based research reporting tools.
  • Languages: Full professional fluency in the Mission language (English) is essential. Proficiency in Swahili is a strong asset.
