Job Description
Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI) dates back to 1963 when it was first established as the “Serengeti Wildlife Research Institute” (SWRI) with role of providing scientific information related to wildlife management for the Serengeti National Park
Duties and Responsibilities
- To participate in collection of sample materials such as soils, plants animal tissues etc, as directed by his/her supervisor;
- To ensure sample materials are stored according to standard operating procedures for each type of sample to facilitate long storage and traceability;
- To prepare requisition for laboratory consumables and important analytical kits from time to time;
- To undertake routine laboratory analysis of materials such as soils, plants animal tissues etc, as directed by his/her supervisor;
- To assist in carrying out laboratory and field data collection and compilation;
- To participate in containment and disposal of hazardous biological materials or chemicals;
- To participate in sample storage in the laboratory and sample record keeping for traceability;
- To ensure laboratory biosafety protocols are observed by any person entering the laboratory; and
- To perform any other related duties as may be assigned by immediate supervisor.
Qualifications
Diploma in Laboratory Science, Biotechnology and Laboratory Science from a recognized training institution. Experience in working with captive breeding facilities in wildlife will be an added advantage.
