Duties and Responsibilities

1. Eye Screening Programme Coordination

  • Logistics & Fieldwork: Coordinate all logistical arrangements and on-site implementation of community eye screening activities.
  • Supply Chain & Inventory: Manage medicine stock following each screening event—conducting strict inventory checks, ensuring proper storage, and tracking shelf life.
  • Data Management: Compile and enter screening results into the designated database; track referral cases, prescription records, and follow up on patient outcomes.
  • Donor Reporting: Prepare aggregate result reports for KOICA and partner reporting using approved templates within required timeframes.

2. Partner Facility Support & Procurement

  • Statistical Reporting: Collect, validate, and consolidate monthly patient statistics from partner healthcare facilities and submit reports to the supervisor.
  • Needs Assessments: Conduct quarterly medicine and supply procurement needs assessments.
  • Procurement Liaison: Coordinate closely with the procurement officer and pharmacy teams to process purchase requests and confirm delivery schedules.

3. Supported Equipment Management

  • On-Site Inspections: Conduct quarterly technical and operational inspections of all project-supported equipment at hub hospitals.
  • Condition Tracking: Assess and document equipment functionality, utilization levels, and user difficulties in a standardized quarterly Excel tracking sheet.
  • Fault Resolution: Coordinate repair or replacement arrangements and maintain continuous follow-up on unresolved equipment faults, providing status updates to the Country Director.

4. Training, Outreach & Community Awareness

  • Capacity Building: Coordinate logistics for specialized training events aimed at local ophthalmologists and surgical nurses.
  • Surgical Camps: Provide thorough pre-outreach logistical planning for surgical camps, including equipment packing, transport coordination, and site verification.
  • Health Education: Support community eye health awareness initiatives; assist in developing and updating bilingual Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials (English/Swahili).
  • Public Events: Facilitate health education sessions and support the coordination of annual public health events such as World Sight Day.

Qualifications and Experience

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, Health Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience or program coordination/administrative experience within the health sector or international development field.
  • Field Work: Absolute willingness and ability to undertake regular, hands-on field trips to the Pwani Region and other project locations.

Preferred Assets (Strong Advantage)

  • Prior experience working directly within eye health (ophthalmic) programs.
  • Background working on NGO-funded projects, specifically KOICA or other international donor-funded health initiatives.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Data & Proficiency: Strong experience with Excel-based data management, data validation, and report writing alongside standard MS Office apps.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Swahili to effectively liaise with government officials, clinical staff, and international donors.
  • Supply Chain Savvy: Familiarity with medical supply chain processes, pharmaceutical stock management, and basic equipment monitoring.
  • Independence: Proven ability to work independently, prioritize tasks under loose supervision, and hit deadlines in a dynamic field environment.
