Location: Liwale, Lindi, Tanzania
Reports to: Project Medical Referent
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Strategy & Supervision
- Assess what patients need and help create support strategies (counseling protocols, health education messages, etc.).
- Supervise and organize the daily work of the patient support team (counselors, social workers, and outreach workers).
2. Access to Care & Community Linkages
- Manage “differentiated models of care” (helping stable patients get care closer to home).
- Coordinate transport and nutritional support for patients.
- Strengthen the “referral pathway”—ensuring patients move smoothly between their communities and health facilities.
- Oversee “defaulter tracing” to find and help patients who have stopped coming for treatment.
3. Quality of Counseling & Protection
- Ensure counseling is respectful of local culture, gender, and traditions.
- Identify and report risks like gender-based violence (GBV), neglect, or social stigma.
- Provide “on-the-job” coaching to your team to improve their counseling skills and maintain patient confidentiality.
4. Data & Human Resources
- Collect and analyze monthly reports to see if activities are working.
- Lead the recruitment, training, and performance reviews of your staff.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: A University Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Sciences, Communication, Health Promotion, Education, or Nursing.
- Experience: * Ideally, at least 2 years working with NGOs.
- Proven experience leading and training a team.
- Languages: Must be fluent in English and Swahili.
- Skills: Strong computer skills, specifically in Word and Excel.
- Values: A commitment to MSF’s principles, the ability to manage stress, and a focus on providing high-quality service.
