You Will no Longer be Able to Apply Jobs in Ajira Portal Here is Why

An official notice from the Office of the President – Public Service Recruitment Secretariat (PSRS) announces important upgrades to the Ajira Portal and new rules applicants must follow moving forward released 15th Aug 2025 in Dodoma

Mandatory update of your secondary education details (Form IV & Form VI)

  • If you already have an Ajira Portal account, you must refresh your secondary school education details inside Academic Qualifications by entering your Form IV Index Number. If you completed Form VI, you must also enter your Form VI Index Number.
  • This requirement is compulsory. You cannot proceed to submit any job application until your Form IV and (where applicable) Form VI details are updated.
  • You will no longer upload copies of your Form IV/Form VI certificates. Instead, the system will pull your records directly from the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) using those index numbers.
  • Studied outside Tanzania? Use the NECTA equivalence number you were given to update your records.

Easier way to add your course/field of study

  • Previously you had to pick a category first, then your course. Now you can simply search for your course directly and select it—no category hunting.

A cleaner, more mobile-friendly portal

  • The Ajira Portal has a refreshed user interface that works better—especially on mobile phones.

Important note from PSRS: These improvements apply to the Ajira Portal only. If you are invited for an interview, you must bring original certificates (from Form IV onwards) for verification.

What You Risk If You Don’t Follow the Instructions

  1. You will be blocked from applying
If you don’t update your Form IV (and Form VI, if applicable) details with the correct index numbers, the system won’t allow you to continue with any job application. Expect a dead end until you fix it.
  2. Your application data may not verify
Uploading certificate copies is no longer the process—the portal now validates automatically via NECTA. If you skip the index/equivalence numbers or enter them incorrectly, your education can’t be verified, which can derail your application. (Implied by the switch to automated NECTA retrieval.)
  3. Risk of being turned away at interview
Even though uploads aren’t needed online, original certificates are still mandatory at interview. If you show up without originals (Form IV onward), verification can’t happen and you may not proceed in the recruitment process.
  4. Delays and missed opportunities
Because you can’t submit without the education update, postponing the update could mean missing application windows while others proceed. (This follows from the “cannot continue” rule.)

What You Should Do Now (Quick Checklist)

  • Log in to your Ajira Portal account.
  • Open Academic Qualifications and enter your Form IV Index Number; add Form VI Index Number if you completed A-Level.
  • If educated abroad, enter your NECTA equivalence number.
  • Use the Search box to add your course (no need to choose a category first).
  • Keep your original certificates safe and ready for any interview invitation.
