In anticipation of the further enrolments in 2026 The Diocese of Mount Kilimanjaro is seeking to appoint two
teachers to join existing staff in this exciting new school project in this rural part of Tanzania. Accommodation and
relocation expenses will be provided for the successful applicants.
Appointments will be initially for one year, with a probation period of three months, and
possible extension after a year subject to satisfactory performance review.

Key tasks
Assist in the selection of children to enter pre-primary year in 2026
Lead the development of the curriculum for pre-primary year
Ensure that weekly activities are planned and lesson plans formulated for each school term
Teach and monitor the children’s learning and abilities
Prepare children’s reports
Prepare children’s examinations and marking
Incorporate Scripture and Bible teaching into the curriculum
Participate in school devotions
Prepare classroom for class activities
Identify and select appropriate instructional resources and methods to meet students’ varying
needs
Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
Prepare classroom for class activities
Perform any other duties as assigned
Essential qualifications and experience
- Diploma in early childhood education or Bachelor of education in early childhood education
- Fluent in written and spoken English Language, Maa and Swahili
- Preferably experienced as a preschool teacher.
- Patient with Children and able to keep order in the classroom.
- Good communication skills
- Good Time management skills and hard working
- Able to work under minimum supervision
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
Other necessary qualities
- A strong, authentic Christian faith and acceptance of and adherence to values of Diocese of Mount Kilimanjaro
- Able to keep confidential information
- Well organized with excellent personal and class management skills
- Excellent work ethic, with close attention to detail
- Self-starter and able to work on own initiative
- Able to live on site in Engaruka
- Able to work as part of a small, professional implementation team
- Willingness for career development and to work with international teachers to promote best educational practice within St Thomas Primary School
- Be flexible, ready, willing and able to take on other roles within the school as need arises
