Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU)
Overview
A very warm welcome to the official website of the Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (MITU). MITU is a collaborative health research unit established in 2006 by the Tanzania National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).
MITU’s programme builds on a long history of collaborative work between health research institutions in Mwanza, focusing on world class research on HIV and other related infections and the development of research capacity in Tanzania.
Our Mission
Our mission is to contribute to improving health through the development and evaluation of interventions against HIV and other health problems by conducting research, including intervention trials, to the highest international standards;
Our Vision
The vision of MITU is to be a world-leading centre for research on HIV prevention and treatment, and other health problems, and in partnership with local and international organizations to contribute in improving health in East African region.
Strategic Plan
Building on past research experience and a record of accomplishments which gives the Unit international recognition, MITU’s strategic plan (2016-2021) aims to strengthen and prioritise research activities to address major health problems
