The Medical Laboratory Scientists’ Association of Tanzania (MeLSAT) extends sincere gratitude to the Government of Tanzania for its ongoing recognition and support of Medical Laboratory Professionals.
The government has remained responsive to our engagements and committed to addressing matters that concern our profession.
Challenges Facing the Profession
We acknowledge the recent difficulties that have affected the medical laboratory field. MeLSAT stands with all its members—both those employed and those still searching for employment. Our association is actively addressing these challenges through direct dialogue and action.
Key Updates
1. Proposed Cadre Structure Under the Ministry of Health
A new proposed structure for health cadres was recently introduced. While MeLSAT had contributed recommendations during the early stages, not all of our suggestions were included in the final draft.
In response, a delegation led by the MeLSAT Vice President met with relevant government officials in Dodoma on June 3–4, 2025.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss and advocate for adjustments to the proposed framework. A detailed report from this meeting will be shared with members once finalized.
2. Employment Advocacy
MeLSAT has also prioritized addressing the shortage of employment opportunities for Medical Laboratory Professionals.
On June 19, 2025, MeLSAT leaders were scheduled to meet with the Public Service Recruitment Secretariat to present these concerns directly and seek immediate intervention.
3. Call for Unity and Patience
MeLSAT encourages all members across the country to remain united and patient. Our leadership continues to work tirelessly to find lasting solutions to the challenges facing the profession.
Regional coordinators are urged to maintain close collaboration with MeLSAT national leadership to strengthen our collective voice and ensure that all efforts are aligned.
