Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) is the national airline of Tanzania, established in 1977 following the dissolution of East African Airways. Headquartered in Dar es Salaam, the airline operates from its hub at Julius Nyerere International Airport. ATCL is fully owned by the Tanzanian government and is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the African Airlines Association (AFRAA). The airline’s fleet includes modern aircraft such as Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, Boeing 737 Max 9s, Airbus A220-300s, and Dash 8 turboprops, totaling 16 aircraft as of 2025.
ATCL offers over 120 weekly flights to more than 15 destinations, including domestic routes like Dodoma, Kilimanjaro, and Zanzibar, as well as international destinations such as Dubai, Mumbai, Guangzhou. In recent years, ATCL has embarked on an ambitious expansion strategy to enhance regional and international connectivity. The airline plans to introduce new routes to cities including Lagos and Accra in West Africa, Muscat, Juba, and London, aligning with the broader goal of supporting the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agenda.
Additionally, ATCL is exploring partnerships with other airlines, such as Kenya Airways, to strengthen its cargo operations. The airline’s commitment to safety and quality is reflected in its IOSA certification, and it continues to play a pivotal role in Tanzania’s aviation industry.
