Job Description

Dangote Industries Limited is seeking a qualified and experienced Medical Officer to oversee the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services at its state-of-the-art cement manufacturing plant in Mtwara, Tanzania.

As the Medical Officer, you will lead the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of both occupational and general health conditions. This role is vital in promoting workplace safety, employee wellness, and ensuring strict compliance with national healthcare and industrial regulatory standards.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Clinical Care & Patient Management

  • Collaborate closely with nursing and healthcare staff to provide top-tier medical attention to all employees.

  • Conduct comprehensive medical examinations, diagnostic tests, and screenings for injuries, illnesses, and occupational diseases.

  • Diagnose acute and chronic health conditions, designing appropriate, evidence-based treatment plans.

  • Prescribe medications responsibly in full compliance with Tanzanian medical regulations, ensuring patients are well-informed of risks and drug interactions.

  • Provide expert counseling on nutrition, fitness, hygiene, and positive lifestyle adjustments to promote long-term employee well-being.

2. Occupational Health & Industrial Safety

  • Proactively monitor, manage, and mitigate healthcare risks specific to the cement manufacturing industry, including:

    • Respiratory conditions

    • Musculoskeletal disorders

    • Chemical exposure

    • Other critical occupational health hazards.

  • Ensure all plant medical operations align strictly with national occupational health and safety laws.

  • Design, develop, and launch targeted health awareness campaigns and wellness programs tailored for industrial laborers.

3. Emergency Response & Team Leadership

  • Provide immediate, high-quality medical care during workplace accidents or acute medical emergencies.

  • Efficiently coordinate medical evacuations and liaise seamlessly with external referral hospitals for specialized treatment.

  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate medical assistants and nursing staff to maintain exceptional standards of care and compliance.

  • Maintain meticulously updated, confidential medical records including evaluations, treatments, laboratory results, and prescriptions.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this high-impact position, applicants must possess:

  • Academic Background: A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or an equivalent medical degree from a fully recognized university.

  • Professional Licensure: A valid, active license to practice medicine in Tanzania from the Medical Council of Tanganyika (MCT).

  • Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of post-qualification clinical experience, preferably within an industrial, corporate, or emergency setting.

  • Added Advantage: Specialized certification or formal training in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).

  • Core Competencies: Deep knowledge of industrial health hazards, emergency medicine, and preventive care combined with excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
