The Ifakara Health Institute (IHI), one of Africa’s top research organizations in health innovation, is inviting applications for a Research Scientist Intern position based in Ifakara, Tanzania.
This opportunity is part of the Ifakara Millennium Birth Cohort (IMBC) project—a groundbreaking study investigating how early-life malaria exposure affects adult health outcomes, such as blood pressure, cognition, and lifestyle.
About the Role
The intern will support a longitudinal follow-up study that tracks over 6,700 individuals born between 1998 and 2000 in the Kilombero Valley. The research focuses on understanding the long-term impacts of malaria prevention efforts during early childhood.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and pilot survey tools.
- Supervise and assist with field data collection.
- Perform data cleaning, management, and preliminary statistical analysis.
- Support logistics and administration.
- Participate in community and stakeholder meetings.
- Conduct literature reviews on malaria and related health issues.
- Prepare PhD scholarship applications with team support.
Who Should Apply
Applicants must have:
- A Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Demography, Quantitative Sociology, Economics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in statistical software like R or Stata.
- Strong communication skills in English and Swahili.
- Experience with field research, health projects, or demographic surveillance data is a plus.
