Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), a leading health research institution in Tanzania, is calling for qualified applicants to fill several exciting research positions. These roles support three major studies focused on maternal health, infertility, and rheumatic disease.
1. PPH Validation Study – Research Assistants (8 Positions)
Location: MUHAS, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Duration: 2 Months
This research project focuses on Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH), a major cause of maternal mortality globally and in Tanzania. The study will assess clinical practices surrounding PPH in Dar es Salaam to enhance maternal healthcare delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement the research protocol and follow standard operating procedures.
- Support clinical staff in organizing patient care pathways according to the study protocol.
- Accurately complete and manage case report forms and ensure timely data entry.
- Monitor and report adverse events while contributing to project progress reports.
- Engage in study training sessions, audits, and monitoring activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in a health-related discipline (Nursing, Nurse-Midwifery, or Medicine).
- Strong understanding of research ethics, patient confidentiality, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- Proficiency in communication, organization, and Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
Desirable Qualification:
- Prior experience in clinical research or donor-funded healthcare projects.

2. GAIN Study – Genetic Associations of Infertility in Africa
Available Positions:
- Project Manager (1 Position)
- Study Medical Doctors (2 Positions)
Location: MUHAS, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
This hospital-based research project investigates genetic factors contributing to infertility among couples in six African countries, including Tanzania. The study aims to enroll 1,500 couples to improve reproductive health understanding.
Project Manager – Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the overall implementation of the project and manage timelines.
- Ensure compliance with ethical standards, regulations, and reporting protocols.
- Handle budget management, documentation, and coordination of team meetings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Implementation Science, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Minimum one year of experience managing research or health projects.
- Strong command of English and excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Study Medical Doctors – Key Responsibilities:
- Screen, recruit, and conduct clinical assessments of study participants.
- Ensure accurate data collection and maintain effective follow-up with health facilities.
Qualifications:
- Medical Doctor (MD) with full registration to practice.
- Strong knowledge of GCP and excellent clinical and teamwork abilities.

3. PRIMA Study – Preventing Rheumatic Injury BioMarker Alliance
Position: Project Coordinator (1 Position)
Location: Babati, Manyara, Tanzania
Duration: 3 Years
The PRIMA study is an international research initiative focused on identifying biomarkers for Acute Rheumatic Fever (ARF). The objective is to develop a diagnostic test that can help prevent Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) in affected populations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate all project operations, timelines, and communication with stakeholders.
- Track study progress, manage budgets, and ensure timely delivery of project milestones.
- Ensure full compliance with ethical standards and donor requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Project Management, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- At least five years of experience in project coordination, research implementation, and monitoring and evaluation (M&E).
