40 Job Opportunities for Healthcare Professionals at MUHAS

The Breathing for Babies (BfB) Package Ecosystem Study is a three-year observational cohort study using a mixed-method approach, focusing on assessing the feasibility and impact of the VAYU CPAP ecosystem across three key use cases: Neonatal Inpatient Care, Labor and Delivery, and Ambulatory Care.

The study will be implemented across Temeke, Ilala, and Kinondoni districts in Dar es Salaam, involving primary healthcare facilities (Mabwepande Hospital, Kivule Hospital, Yombo Hospital) linked to regional referral hospitals (Mwananyamala, Amana and Temeke) and supported by tertiary facilities (Muhimbili National Hospital (Upanga) and Mloganzila) in a Hub and Spokes Model.

This initiative aims to generate evidence to guide national policy, planning, and scaling of CPAP services and improving the continuum of care for small and sick newborns across Tanzania.

Overall Study Coordinator (1 Position)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee field coordination of the study activities in the selected districts in Dar es Salaam region.
  • Ensure adherence to study protocol and procedures at each field site.
  • Coordinate with district field coordinators, ensuring effective communication between study team and facility health providers.
  • Manage logistics for field activities, including timely procurement of the devices for implementation of the study.
  • Daily monitoring and ensure quality of data collection.
  • Monitor daily field activities to ensure smooth operations and problem-solving in realtime.
  • Liaise with local stakeholders, including health facilities, government officials, and other implementation partners to ensure successful project implementation.
  • Coordinate quarterly continuous quality improvement and mentorship for field coordinators to be conducted.
  • Ensure data collection and reporting protocols are followed at each field site, reporting progress and issues as needed.
  • Support the integration of the project with local health system and provide feedback on implementation challenges.
  • Coordinate logistics such as local travel, training venue, training participants’ travel and meals.
  • Coordinate and report all study team meetings.
  • Maintain GCP and research ethics certificates.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Public Health, or any other related health field (master’s degree preferred).
  • Proven experience in coordinating health-related research projects.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and mentorship coordination.
  • Certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Research Ethics

District Field Study Coordinators (3 Positions)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee field coordination of the study activities in the allocated district in Dar es Salaam region.
  • Coordinate newborn journey in support of BfB package from primary health facilities to regional and tertiary hubs plus transportation ie. inter (Ambulatory care) and intra (from L & D and Theatre).
  • Monitor and report enrollment to the study coordinator on daily basis
  • Ensure consent forms are filled properly and signed by both the participant and the research assistant.
  • Ensure all signed consent forms are submitted to the study coordinator after every 24 hours for achieving.
  • Create linkage between study team and hospital team for ownership and influence changes in care as implementation continues.
  • Ensure adherence to study protocol and procedures at each field site allocated in the respective district in all three use cases.
  • Liese with study coordinator, ensuring effective communication between study team and facility health providers in the allocated district.
  • Manage logistics in the field, including identifying items to be procured for effective implementation of the study.
  • Daily monitoring and ensure quality data are collected, entered, reported to study coordinator.
  • Monitor daily clinical activities to ensure smooth operation and problem-solving in realtime.
  • Liaise with local stakeholders, including health care workers, and other implementation partners to ensure successful project implementation in the district.
  • Ensure daily reporting and documentation of events.
  • Coordinate and conduct mentorship as needed based.
  • Participate in all study team meetings.
  • Conduct quality data checks including interobserver variability in the three use cases.
  • Manage and prepare roster for the clinical nurse observers.
  • Maintain GCP and research ethics certificates.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Public Health, or a related health field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in field coordination of health-related projects.
  • Good clinical experience is needed.
  • Experience in qualitative research will be an added advantage.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and mentorship skills.
  • Certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Research Ethics.

Nurse Observers (36 Positions)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct observations 24/7 in the three use cases for a smooth data collection of the study.
  • Conduct screening of possible participants and administer consent forms to those who fulfill the inclusion criteria before the study procedures.
  • Complete study screening and enrolment logs.
  • Observe and document events on daily basis.
  • Ensure safety and intervene as per guideline/protocol when deviation is observed.
  • Report daily performance to the district coordinator on all observations and events.
  • Adhere to facility procedures and attend clinical meetings in the facility.
  • Attend all study related trainings and meetings.
  • Maintain clinical practicing license as per national requirements.
  • Maintain GCP and research ethics certificates.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related health field.
  • Valid clinical practicing license as per national requirements.
  • Previous experience in data collection and observational research is an advantage.
